Private ski lessons in Gstaad
and Rougemont.

Private ski lessons in Gstaad start with one simple idea: one instructor, and only your family on the snow. Because we are the official Swiss ski school of Rougemont, we teach across the whole Gstaad region, at every level. Whether you have never seen snow or you carve every winter, you will enjoy the day.

What is included

What your private ski lesson includes.

First of all, your instructor is hand selected to suit your level. Therefore every hour on the mountain counts, and nobody waits for the rest of a group. In addition, we look after the parts of the day that usually eat your morning.

Daily

Season After Season

In short, we pick you up, we take you to the slopes, and we help you organise passes and equipment. As a result, your holiday runs smoothly from the first morning to the last.

Where we teach

Rougemont first, then the whole Gstaad valley.

We are based in Rougemont, at the western end of the Gstaad region. However, our instructors travel across the whole valley every day, so the meeting point is yours to choose. In practice, most families ask for the chalet door.

Because we know both sides of the valley, we can also move the lesson during the week. For example, a family may start on the quiet slopes above Rougemont, then finish the week on the wider terrain around Gstaad once the legs are ready.

Levels

Where you fit.

Whatever your level, we have the ideal instructor for you. Even so, a clear picture of where you stand helps us match you well. Therefore, here is how we think about it.

First turns

Beginners

You have never skied, or you tried once and stopped. First turns take patience and a quiet slope, so we start on the gentle terrain above Rougemont. Most adults link turns on a blue run within a private week.

Red runs

Intermediates

You ski red runs, yet something still blocks you on steeper ground. Usually it is the upper body, and sometimes it is simply confidence. Once an instructor watches you for an hour, the fix is often quick.

Technique And Confidence

Good snow

Advanced skiers

You want the good snow rather than the groomed piste. In that case our qualified team is available for ski touring, heliskiing, or simply to show you the region from above. Meanwhile, if conditions change, we change the plan rather than the promise.

Your instructor

Who your private ski instructor will be.

Our instructors live in the valley all year, and they teach in over five languages. Because of that, we can match a name to your family rather than sending whoever is free. Tell us the language you would like on the mountain, and we take it from there.

One of our many private instructors in Gstaad, Rougemont and the Saanenland is hand selected to suit your level. Consequently, a beginner never follows an expert, and an expert never waits for a beginner. Above all, the same instructor returns every morning, so nothing has to be explained twice.

Over 5 languages

French, German and English every day, plus Italian, Spanish and more across the team.

The same face all week

Many families request the same instructor year after year, so nothing is repeated.

Children

Private ski lessons in Gstaad for children.

Children learn in their own language, at their own speed, and with an adult who notices when they are cold. Consequently, a private instructor often achieves in three mornings what a group needs a week to reach.

Parents usually ski nearby, or they take their own private lesson at the same time. Either way, we keep the meeting point and the timing simple. In addition, we can pair two siblings of similar level with one instructor, which keeps the cost the same.

One to one

The whole hour is yours

Because nobody else shares the instructor, every correction lands on the right person. Consequently, a week of private ski lessons in Gstaad often replaces a whole season of group classes.

Private Lesson Rates

Rates for private ski lessons in Gstaad.

We price a lesson per instructor, not per skier. So a family of four pays the same as one adult. During Christmas, New Year and February we teach in full days, because the mountain is busy and continuity matters.

  • Morning or Afternoon · 3 hours09:00-12:00 or 13:00-16:00CHF 360
  • Long Morning · 4 hours09:00-13:00CHF 430
  • Full Day · 5 hoursA flexible day with time to explore furtherCHF 490
  • Extended Full Day · 6.5 hoursOur most complete day in the mountainsCHF 650

Prices are per instructor for up to 4 guests. Transport within the Gstaad region is included for up to 4 people. Six days with one instructor, larger groups and heliski days are quoted on request.

Rates depend on the season and on the number of skiers who share the instructor. Therefore, write to us with your dates and we will confirm the exact figure the same day.

How to book

How to book a private ski instructor in Gstaad.

One message is enough to start. We reply personally, usually the same day, in English, French or German.

I

Tell us who is skiing

Ages, levels, dates, and the language you would like on the mountain. One sentence is enough to start.

II

We propose the instructor

We match a name to your level. If the match is not right, we simply propose another.

III

We take care of the edges

Pick-up, transfer, lift passes and rental advice. Meanwhile you unpack.

IV

You ski

Your instructor returns every morning. Consequently, day two starts where day one stopped.

“I had an absolutely fantastic experience with the ski instructor Carl Fredric Hjarne. From the very first moment I felt safe and well taken care of, and it was clear that he has a very high level of skill and a lot of experience. … What impressed me the most was how quickly I noticed improvement. Carl immediately sees what you need to work on and gives clear, practical tips that actually work right away. … It was simply excellent from start to finish.”

“We loved our stay in Gstaad with our family, such a lovely place for both skiing and relaxing. I would definitely recommend Rougemont Ski School. They are punctual, highly skilled instructors, and even better people. A special thanks to Carl, polite, professional, and with a great sense of humour. The kids absolutely loved him! We’re already looking forward to our next stay in Gstaad and with Rougemont.”

Why the official school

Why book with the official Swiss ski school.

Rougemont has taught skiing for decades, and the school carries the Swiss Snowsports badge. Therefore every instructor holds a recognised qualification, and the standard does not change from one week to the next.

We are also much more than a ski school. Indeed, we act as a guide and a local contact for the whole stay. Because we live here, we know which restaurant is worth the detour, and which lift to avoid at eleven o’clock.

A ski holiday rarely stops at the bottom of the last run. Therefore we arrange the rest of the day as well. In short, we have the right partner for each of your needs.

Other formats

Race training, customised holidays and business trips.

Beyond the standard lesson, three formats deserve a mention. Each one keeps the same rule: one instructor per small group, and the same team handling the logistics.

And in summer

The same team when the snow melts.

The school does not close when the snow melts. Indeed, we run summer activities in Rougemont and Gstaad as well, from guided hikes to e-bike tours. So if your family returns in July, the same local team will be there.

Common Enquiries

Questions about private ski lessons in Gstaad.

Do you teach in Gstaad as well as Rougemont?

Yes. Most of our teaching happens on our home mountain above Rougemont. However, when a family stays in Gstaad, Saanen or Schoenried, the instructor travels to them.

Can several people share one private lesson?

Of course. Since the rate is per instructor, a family or a group of friends at a similar level ski together for one fee. Tell us the levels and we will say honestly whether one instructor is enough.

Which languages do your instructors speak?

Over five between the team, including French, German and English every day. Therefore, tell us your preference and we match the instructor.

Do you organise lift passes and equipment?

Yes. We are happy to pick you up, take you to the slopes and advise you on passes and rental through our trusted local partners. In practice, that saves most families an hour every morning.

When should we book for Christmas or February?

Those weeks fill first. Moreover, the instructors who speak a given language fill fastest of all, so write to us as soon as your dates are fixed.

What time do private ski lessons in Gstaad usually start?

Most mornings begin at nine, once the lifts open and the pistes are groomed. However, we adapt the start to your children and to the snow of the day.

Can I book a single day rather than a week?

Yes. A single half day or full day is possible outside the peak weeks. Nevertheless, a week with the same instructor is where progress really shows.

Do you also guide skiers who do not want a lesson?

Certainly. Our team is happy to simply make you discover the region, from the best slopes to the right restaurant. In that case we call it a guided day rather than a lesson.

Can we split the week between Rougemont and Gstaad?

Yes, and many families do. Typically the first days stay on the quiet slopes above Rougemont, then the week ends on the wider terrain near Gstaad.

Do you teach snowboard as well as ski?

Yes. Private snowboard lessons follow exactly the same rules, for children and adults alike. Similarly, we teach cross-country, ski touring and snowshoeing on request.
